REVIEW: Percy Jackson and the Olympians
RATING- * * * * * stars (5)
I absoluting love this book series! Almost as much as I love Golden Compass. The two series are totally different. This series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians contains 4 books; The Lightning Thief, The Sea of Monsters, The Titan’s Curse, and The Battle of the Labyrinth. All get a top rating in my world!
Young Percy Jackson has allways known he was different. Every year he is kicked out of school, because every year, something strange happens .His mom hardly spoke of his dad, saying he left before Percy was born. Yet Percy remembers him well; with the dazzeling smile and kind, tanned face. One day his Math teacher turns into a screeching nightmare; a Greek Furie. Then Percy finds out something that changes his world forever, that he is a demigod; half god and half human. Soon after, he is transported to a “summer-camp” called Camp Half-Blood. His best friend is a satyr w/ hairy legs, and him, Persues Jackson, is the son of Poseidon! But their is a minor problem; Zeus’ master-bolt has disappeared and Percy is the top suspect. With the help of Annabeth, daughter of Athena, Grover, a shy satyr, and Chiron, the tutor of heroes, Percy is on a quest to prove that he is not a snobby theif, and that he, son of Poseidon, should stay alive.
THOUGHT: What About Now?
What about now? That is this weeks thought. What about all those people who dont live a full happy life? Those starving, dying, or surrounded by others who are. How can we help?
This morning I saw the video for the Daughtry song “What About Now?” and started to have I eyes swell up with tears. It was heart-wrenching. I love my life and sometimes dont think about others who dont have dinner, school, or even love. I wish everyone could live like me. I have a penpal who lives in South Africa and lives happily. But they dont have electricity, and sometimes lunch is their only meal a day (at their school lunches are free). But still, others have nothing.
REVIEW: Golden Compass
I give this book a 5-star review! I absolutely love it! Never has there been an author like Philllip Pullman! “Once in a lifetime a children’s author emerges who is so extraordinary that the imagination of generations is altered. Lewis Carroll, E. Nesbit, C.S. Lewis and Tolkien were all of this cast. So, too, is Phillip Pullman,” quoted by Amanda Craigof The New Statesman. The characters are a whole new world! Lyra, a brave young girl who is molding the future without even knowing it; Lord Asriel, a determined so called “uncle” of Lyra’s who is scemeing something that has been feared for so long; Ms. Coulter, a enchanting and charming women who seems innocent, or is she more than that? This whole story is set in a world so different from ours. Armoured bears of the ice are the bravest warriors, witches fly the northern skies on broomsticks, aeronauts wander the world with their collosile air-ships, and most interesting of all, everyone’s soul lives on the outside of their body. These living souls are called daemons and take shape of an animal, and as you grow into an adult, it takes a final animal; reflecting it’s soulmate’s personality. I recomend this to All older children and even adults!
